Shimy walked out of the palace. She was actually quite happy; it was a beautiful day and everyone was cheerful. Shimy herself was even cheerful, something she had thought impossible considering the situation she was in now. She started running and held her hands out beside her like a bird. She wasn’t flying, just running. Shimy burst out laughing.

Exhausted, she arrived at the edge of the great square she had just crossed. She looked back at the palace. It was actually a giant pyramid, though from the inside it had looked like all the other palaces she had ever visited. Or maybe that had only been the great hall.

A few meters farther stood several houses, and the street running through them was overgrown with plants. Behind them lay a park. Shimy couldn’t clearly see what was beyond it, but it looked peaceful and lively. She decided to continue searching for Kel-cha there.

Shimy started running again but quickly noticed she was tired and continued on foot instead.

At the beginning of the park stood a row of trees with a path between them. Trees lined the path, and behind the row of trees stretched a large field with, in the distance, two more rows of trees with another path between them. On the field, two little Jaguarians were playing with a ball.

Ten meters farther, the trees ended and the path continued across the grassy field toward a fountain. Behind it were a playground and a small sports field, and beyond that another residential neighborhood began.

Shimy had indeed made the right choice by coming to this little park. Sitting by the fountain were Kel-cha, Shun-day, and Kelma-Thu.

Shun-day noticed her.
“Hey, Shimy, so you did make a stop in Jaguaris after all?”

“Yeah, you’ve probably already heard that I’m going to spy as a sion in the city of vampires…” Shimy had run the last stretch and was now out of breath.

(Kel) “Let’s go to the palace. The sun is almost setting, and then it can suddenly become very cold, especially in these mountains.”

(Shun) “You really have to be careful. You have no idea how many spies have already disappeared. The worst part is that we don’t know what happened to them. They could be imprisoned, kidnapped, or they may even have betrayed us…”

“Yeah. I already knew that. Do you have any information about what it’s like there and how things work? I forgot to ask while I was still in Orchidia.”

(Kel) “Oh yes, I think so. Almost all spies came here at the beginning of their mission. And if I remember correctly, people write down everything we know about the vampire city. I’ll check if—”

A shadow flew over them. They all looked up at the same time and saw the sky being covered by armed vampires in black uniforms. It was the army of the vampire city.

(Kelma) “They must be coming to kidnap Kel-cha! Luckily he’s unrecognizable here and not in the palace…”

(Shun) “But the Jaguaris kingdom isn’t even that rich or powerful. If they wanted money or weapons, they would’ve gone to Orchidia.”

(Shim) “If they were going to the palace, they’d be flying lower by now. They’re not heading for the palace. Look, they’re even flying higher now.”

(Kel) “THEY’RE COMING FOR THE HORN! Kelma-thu, gather all the troops around the horn to protect it!”

They quickly ran toward the building that housed the horn.

(Shim) “I’m going to the horn!”

(All the others at once) “Okay!”

Shimy ran toward the building. While running, she slid her hands over the ground so she could form a chunk of stone from which she could later shape a weapon.

She jumped onto the roof of a house and kept running across the rooftops. Sometimes she leaped onto the roof of the next block of houses. At the end of the street, Shimy jumped into the air and spread her wings. She performed the opposite of a dive, flying straight upward. She made a spinning dolphin-like movement as she flew toward the stream of vampires.

She shaped a sword from the chunk of stone, and when she reached the swarm, she stabbed one vampire dead with it. She sliced through the next one and circled around the line, stabbing and slashing vampires one after another.

After taking down around fifteen soldiers, Shimy was almost at the front of the formation. She flew upward and sped toward the horn as fast as she could. She took a side entrance and decided not to destroy the building, so that the vampires would need time to do it themselves.

Once inside, she encountered the Jaguarian soldiers.

Shimy was almost at the top of the staircase leading to the horn when the entire building began to shake.

The vampires were inside.

Shimy sortit du palais. Elle était en réalité plutôt heureuse ; c’était une belle journée et tout le monde était joyeux. Shimy elle-même était joyeuse, ce qu’elle aurait cru impossible vu la situation dans laquelle elle se trouvait. Elle se mit à courir en tendant les bras sur les côtés comme un oiseau. Elle ne volait pas, elle courait simplement. Shimy éclata de rire.

Épuisée, elle arriva au bord de la grande place qu’elle venait de traverser. Elle regarda le palais derrière elle. C’était en fait une immense pyramide, mais de l’intérieur il ressemblait à tous les autres palais qu’elle avait déjà visités. Ou peut-être n’était-ce que la grande salle.

Quelques mètres plus loin se trouvaient plusieurs maisons, et la rue qui les traversait était envahie de plantes. Derrière elles se trouvait un parc. Shimy ne voyait pas très bien ce qu’il y avait plus loin, mais l’endroit semblait calme et vivant. Elle décida d’y continuer ses recherches pour trouver Kel-cha.

Shimy recommença à courir, mais remarqua rapidement qu’elle était fatiguée et continua à marcher.

À l’entrée du parc se trouvait une rangée d’arbres avec un chemin entre eux. Des arbres bordaient le sentier et, derrière cette rangée, s’étendait un grand champ avec, au loin, deux autres rangées d’arbres séparées par un autre chemin. Dans le champ, deux petits Jaguariens jouaient au ballon.

Dix mètres plus loin, les arbres s’arrêtaient et le chemin continuait à travers la pelouse jusqu’à une fontaine. Derrière celle-ci se trouvaient une aire de jeux et un petit terrain de sport, puis un autre quartier résidentiel commençait.

Shimy avait effectivement fait le bon choix en venant dans ce petit parc. Assis près de la fontaine se trouvaient Kel-cha, Shun-day et Kelma-Thu.

Shun-day la remarqua.
« Hé, Shimy, alors tu as quand même fait une halte à Jaguaris ? »

« Oui, vous avez sûrement déjà entendu dire que je vais espionner comme sion dans la ville des vampires… » Shimy avait couru le dernier bout du chemin et était maintenant essoufflée.

(Kel) « Allons au palais. Le soleil va bientôt se coucher et il peut soudain faire très froid, surtout dans ces montagnes. »

(Shun) « Tu dois vraiment faire attention. Tu n’imagines pas combien d’espions ont déjà disparu. Le pire, c’est qu’on ne sait pas ce qu’ils sont devenus. Ils peuvent être prisonniers, kidnappés… ou même nous avoir trahis… »

« Oui. Je le savais déjà. Vous avez des informations sur cet endroit et sur la façon dont tout fonctionne là-bas ? J’ai oublié de demander quand j’étais encore à Orchidia. »

(Kel) « Oh oui, je pense. Presque tous les espions sont passés ici au début de leur mission. Et si je me souviens bien, tout ce que nous savons sur la ville des vampires est écrit quelque part. Je vais voir si— »

Une ombre passa au-dessus d’eux. Ils levèrent tous les yeux en même temps et virent le ciel se couvrir de vampires armés vêtus d’uniformes noirs. C’était l’armée de la cité des vampires.

(Kelma) « Ils viennent sûrement pour enlever Kel-cha ! Heureusement qu’il est méconnaissable ici et pas au palais… »

(Shun) « Mais le royaume de Jaguaris n’est ni très riche ni très puissant. S’ils voulaient de l’argent ou des armes, ils seraient allés à Orchidia. »

(Shim) « S’ils allaient vers le palais, ils voleraient plus bas maintenant. Ils ne vont pas vers le palais. Regardez, ils montent même plus haut. »

(Kel) « ILS VIENNENT POUR LA CORNE ! Kelma-thu, rassemble toutes les troupes autour de la corne pour la protéger ! »

Ils coururent rapidement vers le bâtiment où se trouvait la corne.

(Shim) « Je vais à la corne ! »

(Tous les autres en même temps) « D’accord ! »

Shimy courut vers le bâtiment. Tout en courant, elle fit glisser ses mains sur le sol afin de former un bloc de pierre dont elle pourrait ensuite faire une arme.

Elle sauta sur le toit d’une maison et continua à courir sur les toits. Parfois, elle sautait vers le toit du pâté de maisons suivant. Au bout de la rue, Shimy bondit dans les airs et déploya ses ailes. Elle effectua l’inverse d’un piqué en volant droit vers le haut. Elle réalisa un mouvement tournoyant semblable à celui d’un dauphin tout en se dirigeant vers la colonne de vampires.

Elle forma une épée à partir du bloc de pierre et, lorsqu’elle atteignit le groupe, elle poignarda un vampire à mort. Elle trancha le suivant et tourna autour de la formation en poignardant et tailladant les vampires les uns après les autres.

Après avoir abattu une quinzaine de soldats, Shimy était presque arrivée à l’avant de la formation. Elle s’éleva dans les airs et fonça vers la corne aussi vite qu’elle le pouvait. Elle prit une entrée latérale et décida de ne pas détruire le bâtiment afin que les vampires aient besoin de temps pour le faire eux-mêmes.

Une fois à l’intérieur, elle croisa les soldats jaguariens.

Shimy était presque arrivée en haut de l’escalier menant à la corne lorsque tout le bâtiment commença à trembler.

Les vampires étaient entrés.
