They refused to harm a single human, and many of them even lived among humans. Immediately after the "transformation" (the three-day period during which you transform into a vampire. You're shown "experiences," which are like videos other vampires create to try to convince you to choose their side: the side of the bloodlust or the side of the human), you had to choose which side you were on.

The in-betweenness didn't stop there. Vampires on the same side could communicate silently through thoughts, like a kind of WhatsApp. You could even share "photos" (things you see at that moment) and "videos" (also what you see at that moment) with each other.

It wasn't really a cafe. It was more like a hotel, a B&B, or a clubhouse, because you could also sleep there. Shimy planned to rent a room and stay there and help with the resistance.
